In some cases, a renter that has his own load, can ask to a shipbroker to find a ship to carry the load for a certain price.
This contract is called Freight.

The transport rates may be calculated relying on ton for a certain route (for example for the iron ore between Brazil and China), Worldscale points (in case of oil) or alternatively may be expressed in terms of a total sum per day for the agreed rental duration (time rental).
